"Kathy Deggendorfer lives on a ranch in Sisters, Oregon, where the Cascade mountains
form a backdrop for her life as an artist. The snow-covered peaks are frequent elements
in her paintings. She has always loved painting and drawing—finding sketching her
classmates and teachers much more interesting than the actual subject matter in
school.
Her medium of choice is watercolor but her work also has been translated in fabric, tile
and glass. Lots of patterns in each painting are the reason people often refer to her
work as “Painter’s Quilts.” One of her favorite things is seeing how quilters transform her
paintings into fresh new artwork! Kathy’s paintings are in the collections of many
individuals and the Oregon Governor’s Mansion, Mahonia Hall; Robert’s Field Municipal
Airport in Redmond, Oregon; and Brasada Ranch Resort in Central Oregon.
Kathy has been the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show poster artist 6 times. She was selected
to create the 2008 White House Christmas Tree Ornament for the State of Oregon. She
was featured on Oregon Public Broadcasting’s Oregon Art Beat and has a long-running
traveling museum show about Oregon agriculture, curated by the High Desert Museum
in Central Oregon.
Working with Kibak Tile in Sisters, Oregon, has expanded her ability to add public art
installations. Her tile murals are in the collections of OHSU Casey Eye Institute in
Portland,Oregon; St. Charles Cancer Center in Bend, Oregon; OSU Cascades Campus
in Bend, Oregon; Fir Street Park in Sisters, Oregon; Peace Health Hospital in Longview,
Washington; and the Federal Reserve Bank in San Francisco, California.
Using her art to tell stories about the place she lives and where she’s travelled, her
journals offer lots of reference material for her paintings. A daily cartoon on Instagram
about her corgi, Cooper, (@kathydeggendorfer) is a guarantee she brings out her art
supplies on a daily basis."
